My coworkers and I were talking the other week about the kind of weekends we wanted to have: "Anthony Bourdain weekends", "Leonard Cohen weekends" to avoiding "low vibrational weekends". This weekend was a european weekend for me. And the best way to begin was at Ikea: meatballs! Found great joy in these ikea extension cords that are tetrapod-shaped. It was funny walking through the aisles thinking about building shelves... (my coworker asked if my trip reminded me of work- it kind of did! I kind of loved that it did!). There was advertising about how Ikea employees could come and help you assemble the furniture you bought the next day- but isn't the whole point of Ikea the happiness gained from disseminating their pictographs?

Everything reminds me of Cameron Winter... delightful morning spent at Pasadena memorial park.

Bob Baker for the first time. Spent some time chatting with the lovely organist, Ed, and found out he used to play at Old Town--> and I spoke with him back then as well! Saw the Hooray LA show, which was first performed in 1981(!!!) Not ashamed to admit I teared up a bit during the Hooray for Hollywood when the Sondra Lee puppet was singing about wanting to be famous and loving Hollywood. Very surreal viewing BBMT's love letter to Los Angeles' history while experiencing a piece of Los Angeles history: Bob Baker Marionette Theatre itself.

I'm extremely stockholm syndromed by this city and I'm not naive about the faults of the past and present. I was stuck on this part of the post for a long time, a week to be precise, because I felt that the words I had to say about Los Angeles were not eloquent enough, or that they were not enough to express my true raw complicated feelings about the life I am so grateful to be living here. And because I felt I was unable to solidify my words it subsequently stuck my blog post update progress in purgatory as I wanted to complete this part before moving on. A week later, I am chosing to put a pin to this and I am sure my feelings of Los Angeles will arise in future posts.

Sunday getaway to Naples. Charming.
